Examination Guidelines

Guidelines for submitting applications for the Board Certification Examination to be conducted by the Indian College of Veterinary Pathologists in the year 2022

 

1. Indian College of Veterinary Pathologistsan independent certification body for veterinary pathologists in India was established in 2008. It was pioneered, conceived & developed by a group of twenty-two life members of the Indian Association of Veterinary Pathologists, who have established a recognizable stature in academia, research, industry, and practice. The College conducts a Diploma Examination in Veterinary Pathology.

2. Benefits: The diploma certificate holders of the College may be called as a Diplomate of the Indian College of Veterinary Pathologists and may use the title Diplomate ICVP or DICVP, if they wish, after their name provided they maintain the membership of the College in good standing. The Diploma is an essential criterion for the membership to the College.

3.1 Eligibility:

3.1 The candidate should be a Graduate in Veterinary Sciences and registered with the Veterinary Council of India.

3.2 Has maintained a membership status, as Life Member of IAVP, by virtue of specialization (Master or Ph.D.) in the discipline of Veterinary Pathology.

3.3 Has completed at least three calendar years of supervised training during or after Master in Veterinary Pathology that is acceptable to the College Council, as a standard route of training. Normally, the acceptable supervised training is under the supervision & direction of Diplomate of the Indian College of Veterinary Pathologists as given in the application. The training may be conducted simultaneously with M.V.Sc. or Ph. D. program in Veterinary Pathology.

OR

The candidate must have three years full-time exposure in Veterinary Pathology (after acquiring post-graduate qualification), including a minimum period of one calendar year of training, normally under the supervision of a Diplomate of the Indian College of Veterinary Pathologists, as an alternate route of training.

 

4. Application for the Examination (List of authorized supervisors)

4.1 The application should be made to the Secretary of the College in a prescribed application form (Download application form) giving details of qualifications, publications, evidence of professional experience & competence, supported by the Supervisor. The application must accompany with the examination fee fixed by the college council.

4.2 The application form must be filled in capital letters & need signature of a Diplomate of the College certifying adequacy of the training and make the candidate eligible to sit for the examination. An application is valid for only one year except for repeat candidates (refer to section 7.2).

4.3 The application must be accompanied with a fee of Rs 10,000/- and received in the Office of Secretary, ICVP by the deadline provided in the examination announcement circular. The applications must be submitted by speed post-only. No other means of sending the applications will be accepted.

4.4 The candidates will be conveyed about their eligibility for the examination within 15 days of the closing date of application. Those found not eligible or those who withdraw their application during the period (before being declared eligible) in writing will be refunded their application fee by deducting 10% of the fee as processing charges.

4.5 The candidates not found eligible may appeal to the College Council through Secretary, ICVP in writing within 30 days of dated of the letter issued in this regard.

4.6 All The examinations will be conducted in English.

5. Syllabus

5.1 The syllabus for the Diploma examination is subject to change with the approval of the Executive Council. The examination tests the candidates’ aptitude to practice Veterinary Pathology as a profession. The knowledge of pathology in the following functional areas shall be tested but cannot be considered as exclusive content. Please note that relative importance as given below is only a projected estimate and there could be overlaps in the proportion of questions in each sector.

5.2 To be successful in the examination process, individuals must obviously be intelligent and knowledgeable, but they also must have a broad biomedical view, be mechanisms-oriented, have high motivation, be achievement or goals oriented and possess multitasking ability. They must have good organizational and communication skills and either seek out or accept challenges. Leadership quality and management ability are also important for successful Diplomates. Certification examination shall follow the given format to fulfill the requirements of the College.

5.3 Examination format

The examination shall be conducted in six parts normally spread over two days:

 6.0 Examination dates & venue:

The above examination will be held on September 10-11, 2022 at Department of Veterinary Pathology, Nagpur Veterinary College, Maharashtra Animal and Fishery Sciences University, Seminary Hills, Nagpur- 440 006 (Maharashtra). The schedule of the examination will be as follows. Candidates are expected to make their own arrangements for boarding and lodging. It would be in the interest of the candidates to reach the place a day before the scheduled examination. Candidates are advised to reconfirm the schedule of examination for any change before booking their travel and accommodation. However, attempts would be made to communicate any change regarding examination schedule.

7.0 Results and re-examination

7.1 Successful candidates are required to pass all the six parts of the certification examination. Pass percentage shall be determined prior to the examination. Normally, a score of 60% or higher in each paper is set as passing mark. The successful candidate is designated as Diplomate Indian College of Veterinary Pathologists. The result of passed paper is given as pass without declaring the score and the score in the failed paper is conveyed as such. A candidate who fails in one or all papers may submit a written request accompanied by Rs. 2000/-, within 30 days of the date of sending the results, for re-totaling of failed parts for correctness of the totaling only, not re-evaluation of the answer sheet.

7.2 A candidate who appears for all the six parts of the examination and passes three/four/five parts retains credit for the parts passed for the next three years. Additional attempts are permitted within these three years to clear failed parts. Candidates who wish to retake the part(s) failed must apply to the Registrar in a separate application (Download application for retake examination), to retake the examination, accompanied by the examination fee of Rs 5,000/- only, valid for one year, by the closing date of receipt of application for regular exam. Candidates who do not pass the failed parts within the three successive examinations as described above must reapply as new candidates and retake all parts. Candidates who attempt all parts of the examination and fail in four or more parts must reapply as new candidates.

8. Completion of the training program must be conveyed in writing by the Supervisor one month before the intended date of the examination to the Registrar. The examination fee is not refundable if, the supervisor recommends rejection due to failure of the candidate to complete the desired training.

9. Absence in one or all the papers due to any reason including sickness shall amount to having availed one of the chances for appearing in the exam and the examination fee will not be refunded in any case.
